Equine psychotherapy, also called equine-assisted therapy, is a form of mental health treatment that uses interactions with horses to support emotional growth and healing. Working with horses through activities like grooming, ground activities, and occasional riding helps individuals heal in a unique hands-on way.
Studies show that equine-assisted therapy significantly strengthens healthy emotion regulation and boosts self-esteem, helping people feel more grounded, confident, and in control of their healing journey.
Research found that just six sessions of equine-assisted therapy can lead to major reductions in PTSD symptoms and anxiety, providing a gentle, powerful path toward peace.

Equine-assisted psychotherapy is designed for children, teens, adults, and families seeking a hands-on, relational approach to healing and growth.
This approach is especially beneficial for individuals working through anxiety, anger, grief, trauma, and emotional regulation challenges. Horses provide immediate, honest feedback to our emotions and behaviors, helping clients develop greater self-awareness and self-regulation in a natural and non-judgmental environment.
As prey animals, horses are highly attuned to subtle emotional and physiological changes. They read body language, energy, and emotional shifts often before we are consciously aware of them. Through guided interaction, horses help clients learn leadership, responsibility, communication, patience, problem-solving, and emotional regulation all without relying solely on words.
Equine-assisted therapy is particularly effective for individuals who:
This program also serves families who desire stronger communication, healthier attachment, and deeper relational connection. Shared experiences with the horses create opportunities for growth, collaboration, and meaningful connection.
Clients seeking a unique and integrative approach to trauma healing may find significant benefit through equine-assisted therapy, especially within our trauma-focused programs. Additionally, those exploring self-worth and identity are supported through our Identity in Christ program, where experiential learning is paired with faith-centered counseling.
Equine-assisted therapy offers healing beyond words, meeting clients where they are and inviting growth through relationship, movement, and meaningful connection.

Addictions always originate in pain… The question is never ‘why the addiction?,’ but rather ‘why the pain?’” (Dr. Gabor Maté). Counselors can help those struggling with addictions address underlying painful issues and then break the addictive patterns.
Behavioral issues at home or in school often have an underlying cause, such as trauma, depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions. The experienced staff at Cord of 3 meets each child with love, builds trust, and applies effective treatment that approaches the root cause of the behavior.
Every person will at some point have at least one potentially traumatic experience, but this doesn’t impact everyone in the same ways. When struggling to process and move on from negative life experiences, therapy offers a powerful method of finding support and healing.
Individual counseling can help overcome the sometimes overwhelming fear and hopelessness by helping you better understand the conditions that led to the emotional brokenness you are experiencing, and applying healthy coping skills against them.
